Brent and I threw a great Halloween party this year! He has taught me to enjoy this fun and quirky holiday. I never really celebrated Halloween before I met Brent and I really enjoy it now; it is one time of year when people can be silly, creative, and/or sexy depending on how they feel and not be judged.. for the most part.
This year was a special year for us because when we got engaged there was a period of time when we were planning to have a Halloween wedding. So, last year on November 1st when all the decorations went on sale we went with Sara and Amber on a rampage around Austin scooping up all the best Halloween goodies we could find!

Brent and I went to the Scare for a Cure haunted house last night. It is really a cool event because they raise money for people affected by cancer and in 2008 they raised $10,000 for their efforts. I'm all about a good cause but was very nervous about this haunted house. I went to my first haunted house a few years ago and screamed around every corner. I learned that if you are a screamer, they really go after you! I was even so scared at one point that this monstrosity of a ghoul came after me and I tripped over their props and fell trying desperately to get out the door! It was admittedly ridiculous but I never wanted to do it again.
The Scare for a Cure has three different "levels" of scare and we, of course, upgraded to the highest level red. This meant we had to prepare to get "bloodied" and it was full contact, meaning they could touch us but we couldn't touch them. I wasn't particularly happy about this but when we booked the tickets I felt I at least owed this to Brent since he suffers all the time with the difficulty I cause in our eating out (sigh). So last night we went to a networking event put on by the Young Executives of Austin. This was the second event we have gone to with this group and I it was a blast! It was held at the The Kabaret Room (old part of Speakeasy) with a performance by Mandy Lauderdale.
The Kabaret Room was a pretty cool set up. I can't remember how the old Speakeasy was but the couches and intimacy of the area is really nice. One thing I love about networking events is that it gives me the opportunity to go to bars I might not normally frequent. How exciting! Brent and I had our first official meeting with Marc Katz yesterday and I am so enthused to be handling his social media campaign. I can hardly believe it. It's going to be a big job and it's exciting, overwhelming, and going to be oh-so-fun. Look for updates regarding his activities and the movement with his campaign on Facebook and Twitter. I imagine I'll make a special page for him on my site since it is going to take up a lot of my time.
I have to say that I in seeing Marc around town and while I served as a Manager at Eddie V's I always thought he was quite a character. I wasn't really sure what I was going to think of him as an official in public office. Will our future Lieutenant Governor be seen on tv with catchy phrases like "Katz's Never Kloses"? Will the "Pastrami King's" boisterous personality convey well for a public official? I know very little about politics and I wasn't sure if this pair would compliment each other like pastrami and rye. Tonight we were invited to our friend's place at the AMLI on second street. On our walk over we were pleasantly greeted with the Viva la Vida Fest sponsored by the Mexic-Arte Museum. We didn't go to all of the festivities but it was a pretty cool site! I can't believe we have never strolled through there before; I see it every year but never think to go check it out. They had all kinds of food and music and some really cool/creepy face painting for the kids.
This blog is going to be in reverse chronological order because it was a busy day but the best stuff happened at the end of the day and its what I want to talk about most... U2. I had never been to a U2 concert before and it was a-m-a-z-i-n-g, amazing. In a world that can disappoint so often they exceeded my already elevated expectations. Once again, a concert has converted me into being a true fan and now I am a big fan of U2. Dollar for dollar this was the best money Brent has ever spent on me, besides our honeymoon, and it was nearly as emotional as my wedding. Crazy. I knew that Bono and his crew were big on helping causes, particularly the AIDS epidemic in Africa and I was so impressed with the way in which they got their message across during the show. It was powerful music married with a powerful message that wasn't construed in a way that made you feel bad about yourself for not doing enough and more like hey, thanks for supporting us and in turn supporting our cause. You felt as though you had already made a difference. I know it's impossible for you to experience what we did at the show through my blog but if you want to see more pictures and comments about the show click here.
This has taken me a little longer to post about than I had anticipated, but here's the rundown of my ACL experience. First of all, its no secret, it was rainy. I will take rainy any time over the hot dust bowl year where I almost passed out. That was the worst. Of course, like all other Austinites, I am anxious to see how the beautiful Zilker grass recovers from the onslaught of rain, feet stomping, and mud wrestling (ew). We missed out on Sunday because poor Brent got a fever Saturday night. It wasn't Dave Mathews that got him all hot and bothered, its the flu. Wash your hands people, its a nasty one this year! I'm beginning to feel ill and fear I am falling victim to the illness and malaise I have seen him endure over the last few days. Needless to say, this blog is short but I wanted to get it up. Anyways, if you want to see the rundown of the bands I saw and my photos of the event, click here. October 8: First Annual Parkside Pink Party. 8pm-11pm, Parkside Austin on E. 6th Street.

Brent found out that Zombieland was premiering at the Paramount during Fantastic Fest here in Austin. We were pretty bummed that we couldn't get tickets to the festival this year. I was super stoked that we were able to get into this showing, as some of the film tickets go up for sale to non badge holders. As soon as he told me this was premiering here in Austin, with the cast and a Q&A after, I was in. I love zombie movies. Funny ones, scary ones, I dig em all! I appreciated that the tickets were assigned seating so I didn't have to worry about scrambling for seats and we had really good ones on the upper balcony dead center. I like the upper balcony at Paramount because the seating is angled and I can always see over the person's head in front of me, even if they are tall. Anyways....
