Mile 18 and look at the confident, beaming smile!
My friend Lupe ran the Austin ATT marathon this year. I'm just so unbelievably proud of her and the fact that she trained for this on her own and did so great! The most I have ever run is a half marathon and Lupe's great accomplishment has inspired me, once again, to attempt the feat. Did you know that less than 1 percent of the population completes a marathon? Go Lupe!

Lupe and Trish
Vanessa, Brent, Ahsan, and myself had a great time tracking Trish and Lupe along the marathon route. V appropriately coined us as "storm trackers" and that is exactly what we were! Thankfully Brent was quick in figuring out where we needed to be at what time and we got to see them on at least four different points. It was great and I was so impressed when I saw these girls crossing the finish line.

Afterwords we all headed over to J Blacks for a bite and I was pleased to see they were trying out a new Bloody Mary bar. I was also impressed to try their new serrano infused vodka, mmmm. I love a spicy drink!

Pickled okra, celery, olives, and all kind of lovely fixins made this a great concoction!
I've raved about J Black's brunch before here. Honestly, the brunch wasn't as good as what I've had in the past. I know my hubbie is an investor there and all and hope he doesn't get upset but the portions were smaller and the flavor burst that I'm used to from there in my migas just wasn't there. I'm hoping that maybe they were just busy and it was an off day.

My friends contributed greatly to my wonderful marathon experience! From ongoing encouraging text messages (even from my out of town loved ones) to homemade pasta meals from Vanessa…

I was in shock on mile 18 to see Brent!!! I seriously did not think he was going to join the gals on their storm tracker adventure. I was so intimidated by mile 18, but my friends gave me a sweet push. Brent gave me a high five, I smiled to the camera, I heard the girls cheering; it was like a shot of fuel. Plus the fabulous "Si Se Puede” sign rocked! I think I kept smiling for a couple of miles after I read V's sign. Don't be fooled, I swear I smile when I am in pain. Yep.

I made a wonderful new friend, Trish. Trish and I talked (mostly about food) for about 24 miles. I also credit her for making this experience one of a kind. Her boyfriend and now my new friend, Ahsan also gave us a lovely push. Each time Trish saw Ahsan, she added an extra beat to each step, so it made me even giddier to run next to her!

Laura thanks for posting this on your blog and for taking pictures. You are a very sweet and dear friend.

I had a wonderful Marathon Love Day!

Love,
Lupe

Yeah yeah... stop announcing to the world that I can be nice... blek. And... I still don't know what that damn SEE SAW VERDE sign meant.
