Fredricksburg and Football..

Some sort of schnitel.
Busy weekend: Football season has most definitely begun and my mom was in town.  Thankfully, I was able to pack in all the fun to be had.

It started Saturday morning with my mom and several of her friends all joining at our house, to begin our excursion to Fredericksburg.  I forget how close the quaint little town is and though it isn't somewhere I would frequent often there are some cute little shops there to go with all the ladies.  As I love to browse, this is definitely a place for that!

We started at Friedhelm's which serves traditional Bavarian and German food.

Being it that I am a flexitarian, and only choose to eat meat that is local and organic on rare occasion, there weren't many choices for me at Friedhelm's.  I do love some sauerkraut though and theirs was pretty good offset with some crispy fried potatoes with garlic and butter.

My mom had some sort of schnitzel as well as all the other lovey ladies at the table.

After a nice lunch and some catching up it was time to hit the streets! Fredericksburg is fascinating to me with a mixture of shopping appeal from the young to the young at heart.  Gaudy collections using all sorts of items to create art such as: old clown dolls plastered to a frame, creating a collage of 3d art, to patterns of fabrics splashed together creating a dizzying array of pillows on a multicolored couch. You aren't supposed to take pictures in the shops so my apologies for not allowing you to see some of these, um, masterpieces.  Some things clearly aren't appealing to me and other times I am surprised at how things actually work together. Generally, at those rare moments, I can't help but wonder if I am getting older, as I agree with my mother on the appeal of an occasional item.  Am I doomed to become a conservative republican? Oh, it isn't that bad I suppose, she's still a nice lady. (Love you, mom)

This is one piece I snuck a picture of, pretty cute though I don't think Brent would ever allow a pig pillow in our house. I love classic chair styles mixed with contemporary fabrics!
In Fredericksburg the shops begin winding down their stores between 5:30 and 6 and we wrapped up the soggy, rainy shopping day and said goodbye as my mom's friends headed home and my cutely pregnant friend Nikka drove me back to my comfort zone of urban downtown Austin.  She dropped me off and I walked in the door to a couple of friends already having a beer and watching the Ohio vs USC football game.  No rest for the weary.

I do love football season though, knowing that we will see our friends every week.  Sometimes they all come in the masses and sometimes just one or two but it's always a fun time.

Sara brought these tempting cupcakes from Whole Foods.... of course I had one, but at least it was just one this time!

Spotted these on my friend Crystal. She has some great shoes and is a fellow shoe fiend.
It has been a while since I had seen some of our friends, since the summer has been so busy with Brent starting up his businesses and the little bit of travel we have had to do for fun and work.  I had a chance to see Crystal, who is also a blogger; who was rocking the great shoes above.

Our night ended around midnight or so, I believe, as most of our friends went to carry their fun into the night.  It's been a long day and I was anxious to crawl into bed and rest up for another busy day tomorrow.
