This weekend was full of relaxation, good company, and good food. We rounded out the weekend visiting with our friend Sara at Zocalo Cafe for brunch. Now that we have a car our radius of drive-ability has widened and I'm glad to be visiting some of those favorite places we haven't been to in a while due to the frigid weather. Zocalo is located off West Lynn which houses several Austin restaurants such as: Naus Enfield Drug (which has a sandwich burger spot in back), Jeffrey's, Galaxy Cafe, Caffe Medici, and another little Italian bistro Cipollina (which I haven't been to but want to try soon!)
We arrived at the restaurant a little after noon and it was pretty busy. We were lucky to get a parking spot in their lot but I know Sara had to drive around a bit. It was busy but there was still some good seats inside and we were happy to get a table towards the back of the restaurant.
There were several vegetarian options and I had a hard time deciding between breakfast and lunch but happily ended up with their black bean soup and jicama salad. The jicama salad was light and flavorful with jicama, citrus, cucumbers, carrots, cilantro and a jalapeno-lime vinaigrette. The black bean soup had a really nice flavor and I loved the smooth texture. It's definitely going to be a repeat meal for me in the future!
The weekend theme was to get some grub then grab a coffee it seems. After we had a great meal we walked across the street to Caffe Medici for a cup of coffee. I was too stuffed with two bellinis and my soup so I just sat, visited, and breathed in the fabulous aroma of constantly brewing coffee goodness.
All in all it was good times and a nice end to our weekend.
