1886 Bakery and Cafe in the Driskill

Mmm, delicious looking cinamon rolls
The 1886 Cafe and Bakery at The Driskill is most always a fabulous place to eat.  We don't eat there often but when we do I always like to imagine we've spent a luxurious evening in one of the suites upstairs and were treated to an in-room massage. Ah, the imagination is a wondrous thing, isn't it? Brent and I stayed in the honeymoon suite at The Driskill on our wedding night; it was larger than our condo! So now at least I have a proper vision where my ongoing imaginary stays take place.
The moment you walk into the hotel you are overtaken by the delicate scent of The Driskill and Brent said, "Hey, it smells like our wedding." I'm not exactly sure what that meant but I took it as a good thing and beamed as the host sat us at our table. Honestly, not that Brent really remembers since he passed out into an oblivious state of unconsciousness at about 11:15 the night of our wedding. Though we did have brunch there with our families the next day, so I suppose he could remember the hotel from that.  (Brent, you know I love you!) You can see pictures from my wedding here as well as some pictures of our honeymoon suite.

The coffee is always nice and hot.

Brent's eggs benedict- I tasted the hollondaise and it had a nice little kick to it!

Cheese grits, scrambled eggs, and a biscuit. Unforunately, they don't have gravy without sausage in it or you would see it smeared all over the delicious homemade biscuit.
I have to admit that there seems to be only a couple things I order there for brunch. The "Texas Two Step", pictured above, or their beautiful fruit plate. Today I wanted something warm to attempt to offset the frigid 17 degree morning temperature. Though by the time we ate it had warmed up to a whopping 36 degrees, I still felt the chill from the mandatory scooter ride this morning that I thought would never leave my bones. The perfectly cooked eggs and steamy, cheesy grits paired with a delicious cup of hot coffee went right to my core and I felt most normal again. It was a pretty big brunch and I had enough grits and eggs left over to take home for a snack later, which ended up being my dinner. So, all in all, though it's moderately pricey it ended up taking care of all my meals for the day. I guess in that sense, it was a bargain!

Those cheese danishes were screaming at me as we came in. Eat me! Through an amazing miracle, I resisted, but they sure do look good.
