Belfast, Ireland

The graffiti in Belfast made the "troubles"  from recent times seem real and present. Some, at least to me, represented hope and peace while others gave a palpable feel that conflict is still just beneath the surface. That said, the people in Belfast were wonderful to us and we really loved our stay there.

Other pieces of street art were just playful and silly like any other place.

    Street Art

I've always enjoyed graffiti. The ever changing feel it gives to an area can add a beautiful quality to otherwise drab buildings and bridges. It can also give you a quick feel for what kinds of feelings and emotions are going on with youth in a city.

While I recognize that this type of art isn't always desirable in the world (and is sometimes put on inappropriate places like historical sights or meant to do damage for nothing but some terrible squiggles on a new building) I can't help but view these temporary pieces of art and try to absorb all I can. I like to take pictures so I can look back and see something I missed the first time I took a peek. These are some of my favorite pieces.
