Friday's just can't be beat and tonight we had a busy night. It started with meeting Lovely Lacey and catching up on some valuable girl time. Neither one of us had never been to Uncorked and we were excited to try somewhere new! I also heard, from my friend V, that there was a great patio and when I got there I must say I was impressed. It was a great cool night and they have an awesome view of downtown with the luxury of having a parking lot for patrons. How nice to not have to search for parking, for those of you who drive cars anyway.

Green living isn't always easy (sigh). One of the bigger difficulties is grocery shopping. Though we sometimes use Austin Car Share, I'm stubborn and want to do it on my own. So today, I went to the grocery store for the second day in a row to finish up my shopping. I got some great fruits and veggies at Central Market on Lamar and was uber pleased at my selections and merrily checked out and went on my way.
Last night, fortunately for us, my grocery shopping didn't turn out as successfully as I had hoped. SO, we had to find a place to eat dinner. Hmmm, maybe this was a subconscious sabotage, or intentional; I'll never tell. Anyways, I scoured the restaurants for Restaurant Week but didn't find any friendly vegetarian choices, until I came across Fabi + Rosi; also appealing was the fact that they serve local pork for their special menu. As this was also an option for me to eat, since I will indulge in locally grown meats, we called for a reservation.
Busy weekend: Football season has most definitely begun and my mom was in town. Thankfully, I was able to pack in all the fun to be had.
It started Saturday morning with my mom and several of her friends all joining at our house, to begin our excursion to Fredericksburg. I forget how close the quaint little town is and though it isn't somewhere I would frequent often there are some cute little shops there to go with all the ladies. As I love to browse, this is definitely a place for that! Clusters of bats flying over Milago and The Shore Tonight was busy! It started with a nice scooter ride home with rain sprinkling down. I rather enjoy the rain when I'm on the scooter, as long as I am on the way home. It does remind me though that it will be cold soon and I'm keeping my fingers crossed I can survive the first winter without a car in our family, last year Brent had one so I bummed a ride often on cold rainy days. After I got home we went for a run. Since we are training for the marathon it doesn't matter if it's raining or not, the run must go on and it was a nice relief from the beating sun we've had all summer. Tonight I had dinner with my friend Sarah. After a long weekend of eating out and drinking I wanted something that felt and tasted good, so we went to the Raw Bar at Whole Foods. It never lets me down. I had their nachos made with seitan. I swear I could serve that to any of my carnivorous friends and they would love it! I will never understand how they make “sour cream” and “ranch dressing” taste so good without dairy; it truly is amazing to me. The delightful girl that prepared our meal suggested I
Sadly, our vacation was coming to a close and this was our last night in Maryland. Of course, this family couldn't just let it end with a quiet dinner and an early night, no way! A small luxury bus was rented to corral all of us up and take us to dinner at Rosa Mexicano and then onward to see some of the beautiful monuments in D.C.
What I came to discover is that every night starts at the lounge in the lobby. After a few drinks were served and we all had gathered we loaded So, I got to meet Brent's family for the first time and it was a totally awesome experience! An experience it was, because I got to see for the first time ever, what I imagine is a traditional Jewish brunch. As a born and raised Southern Baptist girl (I won’t go into my current religious views), I was never exposed to all this, so I have to admit, I was fascinated. They had bagels and lox and sable and other fish spreads that I’m still not sure what they were. Oh yea, and a full do-it-yourself bar for bloody marys, mimosas,
Our second in night Maryland we went to Olazzo for Uncle Laurey's 90th Birthday! (I'll get to the food in a minute.) 90, that is a nine and a zero people, can anyone really fathom that? I can't. I hope that on another visit, I can sit with Laurey and Faye and learn of their vast experiences as the world and their perspectives have surely changed, over so many years.
The birthday boy and his wife have been together for 60 something years, again, this is unfathomable from my point of view. These two, besides just I was super excited because I had never been to D.C. before and Brent and I were able to go for such a special occasion, Brent's Great Uncle's 90th Birthday! After a long day of travel we were starving. We went to this little shopping/ eating area in downtown Bethesda, and roamed around until we found this hot spot, Mia's Pizzas. You know the food should be good when it's the only place for blocks that is bursting at the seams. Of course, it was going to be a 45 minute wait, but when there were two open bar seats it was a sign for us to stay, so we ordered some antipasto and a couple of beers and did a little people watching.
