My day started off with a 5 mile run; I was then treated upon returning, to my wonderful husband, Brent, making me a beautiful huevos rancheros dish. It was made with a bottom layer consisting of a corn tortilla with black beans and diced pickled jalapenos and a sprinkle of shredded mexican cheese. The second layer had a corn tortilla with two eggs over easy then topped off with his homemade ancho-tomatillo sauce. The pickled jalapeno was such a great addition with richness of the beans and the sauce, genius! When he wants to cook he most always tops himself... most of the time he likes to pretend to be lost in the kitchen. It was a super busy day and we parted ways after breakfast and Brent went to UrbanSpace for office hours and I went to a baby shower in Lakeway. Exhausted, and always looking for an excuse to eat out, we remembered it was the second week of Austin Restaurant Week. After some digging, we found another restaurant that offered a vegetarian option. We chose Sushi Zushi. They have a great Austin Restaurant Menu that's $35/25; the $25 dollar option for vegetarians. As per usual for Austin Restaurant week it has 3 courses and theirs also includes either a draft beer, with your choice of Kirin Ichiban or Sapporo, or a glass of house red or white wine. Their regular menu is huge! For our first course, I ordered the vegetable tempura and Brent had the Soft-Shell Crab Kara-Agge. The vegetable tempura was awesome and I loved the delicate julienne carrots. I mostly used the very spicy sauce that came with Brent's dish; it had serranos and was hot, vinegary yummy-ness. For the main course I ordered the Tropical Roll and the Vegetable Teppan-Yaki. The tropical roll was yummy and I love that mango is being added to sushi lately. Brent got the Bora Bora Roll and Godzilla Roll. He liked the Bora Bora better, it was sweet and spicy; the Godzilla was very spicy with serranos. Brent said, "Good sized portions, plenty for sharing. The menu is a venerable plethora of aquatic and land-locked selections." That is a direct quote. He is so verbose when he thinks he might be quoted on the blog.
For our final course, even though we were stuffed, we finished our meal with the Mochi. This was my first mochi experience. The flavors were mango, strawberry and green tea and it's like sorbet wrapped in a gummy bear. The "gummy bear" is rice paper. I'm not 100% sure if I like it or not; I need to try it again when I'm not so stuffed. Overall a great experience and I recommend stopping in for a try OR have it delivered! You can order online and there is no delivery charge they just require a minimum of a $25 order. Sa-weet!
