24 Diner is a fabulous new restaurant opening soon on Lamar. Brent and I had a chance to go to a pre-opening dinner there and I've already gone back, longingly peering in the door doing my best to will them open again with my jedi mind tricks. Unfortunately it didn't work. Needless to say I am in love with 24 Diner and as I write this I feel guilty about my other love, Frank, which I wrote about here. Though I've decided I can love both.

This post is going to be short. I'm behind but don't want to forget some of the great things we've eaten the week of Thanksgiving. Tonight we ate at The Screaming Goat. I've been craving this place for a couple of weeks and I just couldn't take it any more. Their veggie flautas are awesome you must get them in the broth! On Thursday nights they are a minuscule 75 cents a piece, but we came on a Tuesday so their classic burgers were $2.50. I needed some flautas so I got 'em and Brent got the burger. He said it was pretty good and for that price is was very good.
Ok, I'm not going to feel as guilty about this repeat appearance as last time my camera wasn't working, but I had written about this delicious dish before here. I am in love with the Happy Hour at Piranhna Killer Sushi. It's c-h-e-a-p, cheap. Their jalapeno poppers, though not healthy, are fresh and light and scrumptious. They weren't as hot this time as the last time unfortunately but the flavor of the peppers was still awesome. During Happy Hour the poppers are $3.50 and spicy edamame is priced the same and is more than enough for a complete meal for me. It satiated my craving and I definitely look forward to a return visit! I am learning to beware looking through my own blog as it makes me crave things I've written about in the past. I'm in love with the Vegan Bar at Whole Foods and talked about this meal before, here. As I was looking through my blog last week I saw the veggie nachos I had before and got fixated on, well, another fix. So I talked Brent into scootering down with me for a healthy dinner.
I forgot to order the seitan and the chef whipped up a batch for us really quickly. I highly recommend the addition as it really makes the meal complete. Brent even liked it. I think he mostly liked it because it's pronounced "satan" not "say-tan" like I like to say. He gets a special pleasure at ordering "satan" at the vegan bar... it's not surprising, really. Today was the last home game for the UT football season. Brent and I hadn't had a chance to go tailgating all year and so I really wanted to make sure to head down there this weekend. I'm still not 100% well, so we mostly visited with a few friends and walked around and took pictures. Next year I'll have to remember it's much more fun when you can have a few beers, minus using the port-o-potties of course.
It was also senior day so we attempted to watch the seniors depart their bus and enter the stadium for the last time. You can clearly see how well that worked out for me; if only I was about 3 feet taller! Friday night we went out for an early dinner at Home Slice Pizza. This is one of my favorite pizza places in town. The crust is thin, the sauce is good, and the ingredients are fresh. In my opinion they also have one of the best salads in town... their greek salad rocks. I guess I'm kind of on a salad kick lately but I need to attempt to start offsetting some of the holiday eating that I know is on the horizon.
Most of the time my lovely husband likes to pretend he has no kitchen skills but look at those beautifully poached eggs and toast! Simple and delicious. I called in sick today and something is beating me up.. whether it's allergies or a cold nobody will ever know but it has me down. Anyways, if that's what it takes to get a delicious breakfast made while I'm snuggled up on the couch then deal!
By evening I was getting a little restless and didn't feel like cooking. As we were trying to decide where to eat our friend called and invited us to Wahoo's. Brent really doesn't look forward to eating here so when I have a friend inviting me, I'm always in. First of all forgive me, I'm a little behind on my blog. I've been a bit under the weather for about a week and well, if you don't have anything good to say then don't say it at all. While I don't always hold true to that I realized there are some things I should keep inside. As I was riding my scooter home sick yesterday and mentally writing my blog for the day, I recognized it wasn't something I really wanted to post and that I needed to snap out of feeling sorry for myself. Here's the summary: when you're sick, everything sucks and everything can be blown out of proportion. Though it sucks when I'm feeling crappy and hating everything I normally love about my scooter ride home, there are much bigger problems in the world, seriously.
Now on to the good stuff, Maria Maria's dollar Tuesday taco night! I went to my friend Kim's house on Sunday night to enjoy one of my favorite movies, Heather's. Due to a schedule conflict we were unable to make it to the Alamo Drafthouse quote-along last week and couldn't bear to miss the movie so Kim threw a little watch party at her house. The fabulous hostess that she is she also prepared some movie themed concessions including: A surprisingly tasty "Drain-O" beverage from vodka and cherry limeade with a splash of food coloring; some "pate" that was actually some delicious hummus; as well as some bar-b-que cornnuts. If you have seen the movie, you understand, and if you haven't and want to throw a them party these are excellent ideas! It was a blast and I just love Winona Ryder from back in the day.
Not a whole lot to say about this, but Saturday I had the opportunity to volunteer to help set up for the Austin Children's Shelter fundraisng Gala at the Four Seasons. I found out about the opportunity through the Young Executives of Austin group of which Brent and I are members... clearly there is no age limit since we are in it. Anyways, it was nice to help out such a good organization. I mostly spent my time with an assembly team including myself and Amy putting together 330 of these fabulous pen holders. I look forward to the next opportunity the Young Execs put together!
