My friend Lupe ran the Austin ATT marathon this year. I'm just so unbelievably proud of her and the fact that she trained for this on her own and did so great! The most I have ever run is a half marathon and Lupe's great accomplishment has inspired me, once again, to attempt the feat. Did you know that less than 1 percent of the population completes a marathon? Go Lupe!
2 Comments Happy Hour leading to girl's night out... 01/29/2010
It's been quite some time since I've been to a Friday happy hour and Saturday morning as I clawed my way out of bed, I remembered why. It was a great night though and started at the Trudy's near campus with a fun gathering with some people from work. Trudy's is famous for their two drink limit on Mexican Martinis. Needless to say, I met the limit and by 5:30 I was ready to hit the town.
Brunch at Zocalo 01/10/2010
This weekend was full of relaxation, good company, and good food. We rounded out the weekend visiting with our friend Sara at Zocalo Cafe for brunch. Now that we have a car our radius of drive-ability has widened and I'm glad to be visiting some of those favorite places we haven't been to in a while due to the frigid weather. Zocalo is located off West Lynn which houses several Austin restaurants such as: Naus Enfield Drug (which has a sandwich burger spot in back), Jeffrey's, Galaxy Cafe, Caffe Medici, and another little Italian bistro Cipollina (which I haven't been to but want to try soon!)
Beyond Tradition: Men's Jewelry Showcase 11/12/2009
Tonight we went to Beyond Tradition in the 2nd Street shopping district to view a new men's jewelry line by Catherine Nicole. I had the opportunity to speak with Catherine a bit and she was so nice. I really loved her line of men's jewelry with vibrant colors and yet a still distinctly masculine look. My only wish was that she had had some rings but apparently that is something she is working on for the future! She is a local artist and Beyond Tradition is the best place to check out the most comprehensive representation of her work. You can also see more pictures of her collection from the night here, that I took, as well as other items in the store.
This weekend was the second to last UT home game of the season and still we have yet to tailgate. This weekend it was my choice not to go and peruse through all the all-out-Texas-fans before the game because I really just need a lazy, slow Saturday morning. Everything was on track until we got a call from one of our friends saying he was at J. Black's to watch the game. Now if anything can pull me out of my pj's faster than a flash it's
A) Hanging with one of my favorite peeps before he's had one too many on a Friday night and B) The migas at J. Black's! I've been anxious to make it to East Side and visit some of the bars over there that I have heard so much about. Brent and I have been to several restaurants over there such as, Primizie, Blue Dahlia, Ms. B's, and East Side Pies to name a few. There is some great food to be had East of I-35 and I love all the places I have just listed and now it was time to check out some of the night life.
I never realized how close it all is! It's right there and it was busy. I was able to make it to both East Side Show Room and Shangri-La. I went to ESSR first but due to my bad experience it will be at the end of the blog and I'm going to go straight in to raving about Shangri-La! I know, I know, I was just at Frank earlier in the week; you can see my other blog here. Sometimes you just can't get enough of a great thing though and it was the kickoff event for Flavors of Austin.
Of course your wondering, what is Flavors of Austin? Here's he explanation, directly from their site: FLAVORS of Austin: 52 Week Food Frenzy. FLAVORS of Austin: your chance to experience the best Austin restaurants at the best possible price. Each week we’ll bring you a new featured restaurant offering a discounted, exclusive, multi-course menu. It’s your opportunity to try new restaurants or re-check out your old favorites. Grab some friends and make a night of it! To make it even better, for every dollar you spend at a participating FLAVORS of Austin restaurant, a portion will be given to the Sustainable Food Center of Austin. Don't ask me why, but Brent and I had to get up very early for a meeting today that began at 6:30 am. Thankfully one of our favorite local coffee shops, that's located in the Frost Bank Tower, was up and making the world smell good with warming coffee smells. Apparently they open at 6 am and Stephanie was there with her smiling face to make our morning start right. I've mentioned Texenza before here, and how you can get a great deal on coffee and latte's if you follow them on twitter. Now, about the food...
It was a busy night and my only wish is that there were more hours in this day. After I got home from work, I enjoyed a nice run with cool weather. What a great change, I'm really enjoying this time of year! Then Brent and I hurried to get ready for a quick Happy Hour at Imperia to visit with our friend on leave from Iraq. We then hurried off to the Tribeza fashion show.
It was great to see our friend Josh, he looks great and we can hardly wait for him to come home in December. We hadn't know him for long before he left and he made quite and impression on us with his kind heart and constant smile. I look forward to getting to know him better upon his return. Him and his gal, Jessica, just bought a house! I'm really excited for the both of them and all the good that I am sure is to come their way. Friday's just can't be beat and tonight we had a busy night. It started with meeting Lovely Lacey and catching up on some valuable girl time. Neither one of us had never been to Uncorked and we were excited to try somewhere new! I also heard, from my friend V, that there was a great patio and when I got there I must say I was impressed. It was a great cool night and they have an awesome view of downtown with the luxury of having a parking lot for patrons. How nice to not have to search for parking, for those of you who drive cars anyway.
