The 1886 Cafe and Bakery at The Driskill is most always a fabulous place to eat. We don't eat there often but when we do I always like to imagine we've spent a luxurious evening in one of the suites upstairs and were treated to an in-room massage. Ah, the imagination is a wondrous thing, isn't it? Brent and I stayed in the honeymoon suite at The Driskill on our wedding night; it was larger than our condo! So now at least I have a proper vision where my ongoing imaginary stays take place.
The moment you walk into the hotel you are overtaken by the delicate scent of The Driskill and Brent said, "Hey, it smells like our wedding." I'm not exactly sure what that meant but I took it as a good thing and beamed as the host sat us at our table. Honestly, not that Brent really remembers since he passed out into an oblivious state of unconsciousness at about 11:15 the night of our wedding. Though we did have brunch there with our families the next day, so I suppose he could remember the hotel from that. (Brent, you know I love you!) You can see pictures from my wedding here as well as some pictures of our honeymoon suite.

This weekend was full of relaxation, good company, and good food. We rounded out the weekend visiting with our friend Sara at Zocalo Cafe for brunch. Now that we have a car our radius of drive-ability has widened and I'm glad to be visiting some of those favorite places we haven't been to in a while due to the frigid weather. Zocalo is located off West Lynn which houses several Austin restaurants such as: Naus Enfield Drug (which has a sandwich burger spot in back), Jeffrey's, Galaxy Cafe, Caffe Medici, and another little Italian bistro Cipollina (which I haven't been to but want to try soon!)
We've had a very busy schedule lately and I haven't made any new promises to eat at home for a week so Brent, my friend Melissa and I headed to Shady Grove for dinner. It wasn't as busy as I expected for a Friday night but it was pretty cold outside and I think maybe people just were bundling up in their homes.
Anyways, we had great company and dinner was pretty good. Shady Grove is one of those places that is perfect when you are craving some tasty fries smothered in cheese and jalapenos but after a glutinous holiday I decided to stick with a salad and veggie chili. Besides, I knew we were headed for coffee after dinner and thought I might snag a dessert. Ok, I'm a few days behind my deadline of "getting back on track" with the blog. I've missed writing, no doubt, and things have been super busy in our house but it seems we are getting back to normal once again. So, I hope you all had great holidays and be prepared to see some serious backlog of blogs pop up!
Let's see, where to start? New in my world: a) Brent got a new job, hoorah and Happy New Year! b) Brent got a new job, therefore we got a new (to us) car! c) I'm not working for the Marc Katz campaign anymore and d) We got an awesome extension to our closet space thanks to Brent's new job and IKEA. (Brent had to finally feel my pain of lacking closet space before this beautiful addition was made.) Needless to say, our holidays were good! We went to Chuy's after a very long day at the outlet mall in San Marcos. I was a little beat down and a little grumpy when I walked in the door. The wait wasn't as bad as it looked and after about 20 minutes we were seated at our table.
Normally I would be upset because somehow the pictures of my vegetarian enchiladas didn't come out but honestly, the food isn't the focus of this blog, it was our server, Tim. "Timothy A" to be exact from my receipt. Tim turned my frown upside down and actually more into a face of pure amazement. As a former manager of a restaurant and the fact that my family owned a small restaurant during my latter highscool and college years, I'm pretty observant of service. Tim was truly amazing and a star in his own right. |
